A listing expert who rolls up his sleeves.

Licensed in North Carolina and South Carolina and based in Fort Mill, Michael works with a base of high-end contractors to prepare and upgrade homes before they go on the market. He'll tell you honestly which updates are worth it, so every dollar you spend has a reason.

Thirty years in real estate, and thirty years married to Sandy. Some things are worth doing for a lifetime.

From Madison Avenue to the Carolinas

Michael started in advertising on Madison Avenue in New York, where he learned how to present a home so people want it. He came to South Carolina from New York to care for his aging parents. He was the only one of their children able to make the move, and it's how he met his wife, Sandy.

In 1996, the same year he married Sandy, he founded Design Associates in Charlotte. The agency began in the historic Latta Arcade on Tryon Street, later moved to SouthEnd, and grew into a 30-person agency trusted by names across the Carolinas. Michael served as Corporate Vice President of Marketing at Eastwood Homes, 2006–2016.

Client words

What clients say.

“

Michael was great to work with. We were buying from out of state so he would go look at homes for us when we couldn't be there. He went above and beyond to assist us with our home purchase. He is also very knowledgeable about the area, neighborhoods and Home buying and drilling processes. I would highly recommend him!

“

We have had to move a lot over the past 20 years and I have worked with multiple agents from multiple agencies in the past with mixed satisfaction levels. I can confidently say that our experience with Michael O'Brien and his team was the best we have ever had. We truly enjoyed working with him.
